Is it true what they say about Metric Homes?

All builders will tell you they use the "best practices" and provide the best product. I set out to confirm, first-hand, the story behind Metric Homes' success. I interviewed a cross-section of their sub-trades.

What I heard in every interview is that the two owners of Metric Homes, Michel Charlebois and Pierre Bernier, really do care and that they are among the top professionals in the home-building industry. The builders' claims are true!

I must admit I was a bit surprised by the overwhelming praise and rousing endorsements. They are the sort of compliments typical of satisfied homebuyers, yet they are offered by other construction professionals and building specialists.

From the excavation to the rooftops of each home, the team at Metric Homes demands and expects the very best in quality and workmanship from each trade. Here are just a few comments.

"The customer is definitely "first" with this builder," says interior decorator, Tammy Gauthier of Décor Inspirations by Tammy. "Basically, the owners are always on hand - offer total flexibility, and always do their best to make things easy for the purchasers."

Marc Larisey of Thomas Cavanaugh Construction agrees. "Our company has been in business for many years and I have worked with [this builder] for almost four years. Metric Homes is very good to work for. Michel is real hands-on. They know what they are doing and they do what the client really wants. Metric doesn't go for cheapest price. [They want] good quality work. Metric is very organized, not rushed and pays more attention to how homes are built."

Because Michel is so organized, "it usually takes us only about one week to frame a house," says Tony Spadaccini Carpentry Inc. "We make sure everything is nice, straight and level. Michel is very demanding. From the start, he wanted a specific crew and uses that crew all the time. It's been great! He schedules us and is very good to work with, if you do your work [well]. He understands the job to the fullest. He demands a higher level of quality than other builders. Most owners of other companies have a site supervisor. Michel is an owner and runs the site also. I have been in business for 12 years. This builder is very pleasant to work with."

Frank Gatto of Prima Paint takes personal pride in painting all homes for Metric. "They rag all the walls and each home is always very clean. When they are ready for me, I can go in, paint, do a lot of high-end work for the builder and make sure every customer says "WOW!" when they walk in. I have a motto, "it's not the paint, it's the painter that makes the difference." Not only do I make sure that the builder is happy, but the customer has to be ecstatic!" says Gatto.

This was echoed by Mike Visinski, of De La Fontaine Inc., a company specializing in door and trim work. "Metric is an excellent company to work with! He has everything on computer. He carries a laptop with him everywhere and everything is in it. All the contracts, proposals, client requests, the proper trim, materials and finishes to be used - it's all there."

Gilles St. Jean and brother Denis own Axel Plumbing. They have been working with Michel for over 20 years. "It's always been the quality [that counts] with Mike, price is secondary to the product," said Gilles. "He [Michel] makes sure the client is satisfied. We do all of Metric Homes' houses and they are always very pleasant to work with."

Metric Homes is building on their lots in Stittsville and will build on your lot anywhere in the Ottawa area.

In Stittsville, there are homes available on 40, 50, 60 and 66 ft. lots. A selection of existing designs or custom plans is available to choose from. Prices start from $245,900. Private cul-de-sac lots priced from $300,000+, and standard or parkland lots are also among the extensive selection. Inventory homes are available with immediate occupancies.

Metric can also help you build a home on an existing lot that you currently own. Create your own design, or work with the Metric owners to modify an existing plan.
